Alright, where’s the #Mastodon merch? I could use a t-shirt. Please tell me there are colors other than black (IMO way, way too many tech shirts just default to black).

I might share at The Fowl Place later (h/t @marlies ) but I am building new muscle memory so here first:
Yall! Tis the season to watch Carol of the Bells, aka S2E4 of Ted Lasso, IN CONTEXT! (Y'know, as opposed to in August.) How much do I love this episode? I willingly flung myself at a microphone to chat about it on Football is Life: theincomparable.com/footballis

Welcome to macOS Finder Unwrapped!

This year, you renamed 3,199 documents with the word "Final" in their name, and then named 2,198 of them "Final Final". That's 10% more than last year!

ICYMI, in Messages on macOS, ⌘T will tapback the last message, and ⌘R will reply in a thread. When the tapback bubble is open, you can use numbers as shortcuts relating to the position of the tapback you want to send, e.g. ⌘T 1 to heart the last message, ⌘T 3 to thumbs down.

This afternoon, on Mauna Loa, fountains at fissure 3 were consistently 40-50 m (131-164 ft) tall and fountains at fissure 4, which formed at approximately 7:30 p.m. HST on November 28, were 5-10 m (16-33 ft) tall. The longest and largest lava flow is issuing from fissure 3. (USGS) PC: Paradise Helicopters #maunaloa #volcano #Hawaii

I made a horrible mistake and read the comments again. This is the kind of thing that drives people to self medicating.

Having now been on #Mastodon for 1 month, a few observations:

- Mastodon makes me realize how much the #Twitter algorithm maximized user outrage to boost engagement for profit. Gross. Here, my feed is interesting & supportive.

- There's a culture of kindness - at least so far. It's extremely appealing & should be normalized on & offline.

- Beyond reactions to toots, people share songs, poetry & ask great questions. I can't remember the last time I found social media to be fun.

I know this must be disappointing to many of you, but there's lots to be excited about in the world of iOS clients right now: the official Mastodon app has a larger team now, @tootapp continues to be well worth the money (buy it if you haven't already), and @shadowfacts, @libei, and @tooot are all doing amazing work that you should check out if you haven't already

@chartier brilliant wordplay from kara, "Frontloading a fight with @tim_cook with specious nonsense isn’t going to work. Why? For one, he’s not a manic toddler hopped up on Twinkies and weaponry cosplay. Plus, no advertiser like to spend their marketing money in Thunderdome of toxic asininity."

Oh wow. Not only has Apple "mostly" stopped advertising on #Twitter (Musk's words), a source tells John Gruber that Apple was *the* largest advertiser on Twitter.

I'm kinda surprised by that, not sure why. But also, good on Apple. Anyone know of a way to help pressure more advertisers to bail?

Loud, clicky (mechanical) keyboards are bad.

They're the obnoxious Harleys and street racing cars of the tech world.

Keyboards should shut the fuck up.

Thanks, TED Talk, etc. etc.

Nice thing about Mastodon: It's one of the extremely rare web pages I visit where my ad blocker doesn't need to do anything.

This is one of my favorite pictures. It feels like it was taken yesterday… but it was taken in a Paris public garden nearly a hundred years ago. Everything feels modern: the composition, the casualness, the daring clothes, haircuts, and accessories.

The colors are original: this is an #autochrome, using the first process for color #photography invented by the Lumière brothers in 1903.

The women are unknown, but I can't help wondering how they fared a few years later in nazi-occupied Paris.
